American Pie - everyone wants a slice

I am very concerned that we don't have enough American Pie for everyone to have their rightful slice. Seems that some folks are taking more than their share and leaving less for the rest. Looking like a little bullying and bullshitting is going on here. I know that something like the top 2% of our country's wealthiest people pay taxes to support too many of the rest of the lower income and poor Americans and even perhaps let's include some of those folks called "illegal immigrants." Maybe that was to inappropriate to call them what they are. OK, undocumented immigrants. Nope doesn't work for me. "Illegals" is even better. Now, please know that I have a complete understanding of the founding of our country and the fact that it is mostly built of decedents of immigrants. A different Blog here. Sorry I digress once again.
OK, how about that light bulb lighting up here. The complete redistribution of wealth isn't what I am looking for here. I am wondering about this concept; those who have should help those who (legitimately) don't. Now don't even think I am suggesting Socializing our country. Nope, not an option in my playbook. Just understand that if our economical classes are so out of proportion it just may be a sign of something that is fundamentally wrong. Now I do agree there are those unambitious, freeloading, and downright disgusting individuals, that want and actually too often get, a free ride. So I am not saying the rich are the ones to blame for this incredible imbalance of our economic proportioning.
I have trouble understanding the whole poverty line deal. If you are impoverished then why are you not able to be helped to improve your income to a level that gets you out of that state, positions you not to fall back into that state, and maybe even given the opportunity to actually own a home. OMG that is way too far out there.
Just to be sure I am not way out there. And please let me know if I am misinformed. You can't make it as a family because you haven't enough income to support the entire family (and for arguments sake one adult in the family is too ill to work), but if the one who is making money separates and divorces the ill member then the ill member will be able to get government assistance. So just checking here...punish those who want to rise above the poverty level enough to support their entire family, one that is intact, and perhaps stay out of that danger zone. I am thinking... wouldn't those people become a productive group of Americans that then would contribute to the society and no longer rely on the society? Hummmm. OK, wow this is taking me way out into other places. I need to stay focused. I was just thinking about who is "allowed" to get married. I was also thinking about how the "precious and sacred" act of marriage is. Wow, I have really not been on the ball here. Ok, last time, I am back on track.
"They" want to support marriage, "They" want to help those who are unable to work (legitimately), "They" want parents to raise their children to be productive members of society and yet, "they" won't keep marriages intact to help support the one who is unable to work, to help keep the families together to raise their children to be productive members of society...OK, that is a crazy bag of bullshit.
Take your slice and if you see someone has less share. Didn't your mother teach you that? How yeah, she was a single parent and didn't have time. Sorry, another Blog.
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why our wealthy Americans and the best government in the world can't see that helping the legitimate folks who need a hand will make our country better easier and quicker?

Transparency - the kind politicians use

I have noticed since President Obama has been in office one of the all important buzz words is "transparency". Interesting that this has floated up from the bottom of the previous eight years administration's vocabulary. The blame game continues and it is quite interesting for me to see how the word transparency is so easily tossed out during a speech, interview, or even a farewell message.
When I look at that word I understand if for it's literal meaning. I wonder though about those folks who have it in their drawer of the top ten buzz words. You know about buzz words? Those words that had to be on the resume or used during the interview for a new position. Hated that bullshit. But that is another Blog. I digress. Do these politicians that have apparently fallen in love with the word really know why they are saying it. Are they attempting to separate themselves from the previous administration's reputation? Are they knowingly using the word to get the "blessing" of their constituents? Are they caught up in the buzz word because it is politically correct to say it?
Using that word carries with it a tremendous responsibility. You must then actually be transparent with what you do in office. You must be willing to not only conduct your work in a transparent manner but also willing to be put under the microscope for the all important transparency check.
I really don't think that politicians in general know that the more they play the game of politics the worse they look as politicians. That is so perplexing for me. I guess if you have the mindset of a politician then you have no other perspective to draw from. It's like you know there are trees in the forest but can see them.
So jumping on the politically correct buzz word band wagon really seems silly. Don't you think? Kinda childish, not very leadership like. Do you have to say you are transparent because you think someone will question it? How about just being transparent, for whatever that word means to them, and then you won't have to tell everyone you are transparent. Now I know that is a stretch and highly unlikely with most of those who want to serve our country as an elected official. I am all for those who really think they can make a difference with their country, state, county, city, town, etc. I just know that most of those folks don't last because it takes too much time and energy, too much ass kissing, too much negotiating, too much bullshit to be very unproductive. Talk about waste and abuse of government money. Yikes I may have another Blod here.
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on....give me any good reason why we can't elect American citizens who want to do good and that can actually do good without all the politicing?

Climate Change - nuture or nature

One of the most incredible debates of the 21st century is IF Global Warming is occurring. I see no reason for debating this as a "possible" phenomenon. It is a fact that there is a current increasing of planet-wide temperatures. It is a fact that the increasing temperatures are occurring very rapidly. There is nothing to debate with regards to if it is happening. It is happening and that is that.
The legitimate debate is about why Global Warming is occurring, how long will it remain, and what the long term impacts there may be. OK, so while the professionals and politicians attempt to agree on all this stuff why can't we move froward with dealing with the fact that it is happening right now? Whether it is due to our contribution to greenhouse gases or due to the changing solar cycles, or something else ,or a combination of it all that shouldn't prevent us from taking immediate action to decrease what we do know is contributing to the dangerous warming of our planet.
Why can't everyone understand that finding a definitive reason(s) why our planet is warming so rapidly over the recent years shouldn't prevent us from taking immediate actions to help mitigate the problem? Can it be possible to agree to disagree why this is happening yet continue to research it, and still move forward with what we do know to be fact now? How about we agree to work on the fact we know that greenhouse gases are trapping the earths heat, we know that we are the ones creating those excessive greenhouse gasses, we know that we must change that behavior to improve the impact on reducing the greenhouse gases.
OK, so there may be multiple, complicated and legitimate causes for this planet-wide increasing of temperatures. In my research into the causes of this phenomenon I have found a very good example of a complicated and legitimate cause. Solar activity waxes and wanes in approximate 11-year cycles. The increase of solar activity increases the radiation levels on earth which inturn increases global warming. Solar Cycle 23 began in 1997 and it peaked in the year 2001 then began to lessen. It was supposed to have reached it's end of the 11-year cycle in 2008. But it didn't and still hasn't yet in 2010. This means that we might see a reduction of the solar radiation levels on the earth for a longer that normal period of time. In fact the next Solar Cycle 24 is predicted to have the lowest peak in any cycle since 1928.
My point is that this slowing and low peaking of solar radiation effects on earth might provide us with a window of opportunity to make significant progress with mitigating the Global Warming event by reducing our greenhouse emissions dramatically. While the earth goes through a potentially cool period we might have the time we need to make the changes we know can help to reduce Global Warming and then include work on the other causes that may exist that we may be able to address.
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on....give me any good reason why we can't start reducing our greenhouse emissions now while we continue the debate for the cause(s) of Global Warming.

Victims - ones without common sense

Common sense is a topic that would take too much time to blog about in entirety, but it can be broken down into situational stories. Makes it easier to chew on although not any easier to swallow.
Recently, I took over the liaison position of our neighborhood watch program with the local police department. Let's say that includes about 300 homes. OK, so one of the issues we continue to have is during the overnight hours are that some of the vehicles left out in the driveway are being broken into. Wait it gets worse, not the severity of the crime, the reason for the crime to begin with.
Our neighborhood is in fairly upscale area and most of the time don't have many crime issues to deal with. With the fact that the homes are rather large, the builder was smart enough to install all of our homes with outdoor security lighting. These big bright lights cover all four sides of the property/home very nicely.
Here is the dilemma I have with the lack of our neighbor/victim's common sense. You know the ones that obviously have high paying careers...they had to get there some how, how they did it without common sense is...yet another blog topic. To me it is a no brainer that if you want to prevent someone from picking your home to target for a burglary or an auto larceny you might want to have those existing security lights ON overnight. Hey how about putting your car in the garage instead of leaving it in the driveway, (because you have so much crap in the place where the vehicle would be parked). I got another idea that could deter prowlers is it ummmmm, I don't know...locking the doors or rolling up the windows of the car that is being left out in the driveway. The last and most obvious prevention step that I would recommend is that you DON'T leave your cell phone, navigation devise, wallet or yes, even the keys to the car in the car that is unlocked, with the windows down, parked in the dark corner of your driveway.
The best part of all of this is that when we talk with these people about taking appropriate steps to safeguard their home AND our neighborhood, most of them don't care. Yes, most don't care. Often a reply is "oh, it's just the neighborhood kids causing trouble." So let me get this straight. Our neighbors not only are oblivious to doing the commons sense things to secure their home/property it is likely their own children are committing the very crime we are dealing with so often? What? Really?
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why people can't turn on those security lights, take their property into the house, and lock the doors on the car?

Words - the snide ones

I have noticed that when engaged in a light hearted, spirited, or even heated discussion regarding opposing perspectives, civility doesn't seem to be a part of the equation. I think I can safely say that it likely is never a part of the equation. Unfortunate as that may be I do feel it is accurate to say.
I think the main problem is often the wrong emotions come into play and those emotions make people say snide remarks. These sly insinuations often are tremendously disrespectful, offensive, inaccurate, and down right painful. Throwing snide words at someone, is with the intention of making oneself feel less vulnerable and more in control. Fear, jealousy, anger, lack of compassion, inability to be empathetic and many more of those negative emotions are largely at fault for the poor choice of words used in many so called debates.
I do think personality is another contributing element to one making snide remarks. Ones insecurity, lack of self worth, poor attitude, character flaws, and many others add fuel to the fire.
I guess what I don't understand is why can't people see, know, understand, respect and accept the fact that we all have our own perspectives, perceptions and personalities?
Those are the things that make us individual and unique from one another. My perspective is only mine and cannot be owned by anyone else. My perception is what I take away from my observations regardless of the intent of the those I observe. My personality is what my DNA, my nurture and my experiences in life have given me. How is it that ones opinion of something is better or worse than another's opinion?
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why can't we have a disagreeable discussion without snide remarks?

Security - of our border

So this whole deal about protecting our U.S. border is really quite bizarre to me. I don't really understand the problems with not being able to do it nor do I understand why it isn't more of a priority for Americans to make happen.
So many of our troubles in the U.S. are as a result of our porous border. Yes, I know I am being nice by saying porous instead of just saying practically wide open. We have smugglers who bring in drugs, people, and who knows what else. They also take out money, weapons, and who knows what else. To me that is good enough reason to "secure" the border. However, and most unfortunately, there are more scary reasons to "secure" the border. Let's start with disease for example. Choosing the H1N1 virus pandemic makes one good case. Mexico was top of the list with a serious outbreak before we were experiencing our own spread of the disease. Granted many Americans were smart enough to cancel trips to Mexico at that time but what about all of those who came to the U.S. from Mexico? What if that disease wasn't a world wide pandemic but a disease isolated mostly in South America? Another even better example for "securing" our border is stopping the criminal element from entering our country. We have enough of our own bad guys and really don't need any more. The gang activity here in the U.S. is outrageous but that is another blog to write about. When we find someone here illegally we deport them back to Mexico so they can crawl back under the fence to report to work the next day. What? Really? Hey the alternative is to incarcerate them but then who gets to pay that bill? Like we have money growing on trees? Please! Now the really big one I don't even want to acknowledge. Not that there aren't many more but I have already made my point and feel no need to add to the rage many Americans feel. Ok, I will write it, terrorists. We can't keep them off of our planes where we actually have an opportunity to know their name and see their face. I am not sure why they bother with the planes when they could enter through Mexico via our U.S. border, (the porous one). What price are we as Americans willing to pay by allowing terrorists into the country?
How much money would it take to "secure" our border and really do it right? Well not that much compared to all the other wasted spending elsewhere, but then our government is concerned about the trade off of "securing" our border the decline in tourism, the economic impact in both countries, blah blah blah. So we are saving money so we can make money at the expense of our American right to freedom to let others terrorize us? Ok, that is another blog opportunity.
It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why we can't just "secure" the border and then let the rest of the problems go away?

Sleep - enough already

Seems that Americans are proud to announce that they can "get by" with only five hours of sleep each night. Why would they only get five hours let alone be proud of saying it?
It is recommended that we get a full eight or nine hours of sleep every day. This length of time allows your body to get enough rest, your mind to get all it's processing done, and your soul to have time to play without boundries. Unfortunately, most people don't take the time or cannot make the time to sleep eight or nine hours a day. I guess I can understand,(to some extent) why those who cannot take the time because of having multiple jobs to make ends meet. But that is another subject to blog about. Why do they need to work more than one job?
I digress, what is so hard about taking care of ones body? It doesn't take willpower to sleep like it takes to keep yourself from over eating. It doesn't take discipline to sleep like it takes to exercise five or six days a week. It doesn't take reminders to sleep like it does to drink eight glasses of water every day. It doesn't take a seven day pill organizer to sleep like it does to take all your medications and supplements. Seems to me the easiest of all those "healthy" things we are all charged with doing is the sleep thing.
If people got more sleep they would likely be less irritable, less frustrated, less...oh I don't know...TIRED!It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why we can't at least get some more sleep?

Flags - the really big RED ones

What is the deal with this 'known extremist' who is allowed to board an international flight to the US to then proceed to almost be successful in blowing it up? Remind me later to go over the question the pundants were asking about why blow up the plane during landing and not over the ocean. That one makes me just as crazy.
OK, now I am not in the business of gathering, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting intelligence information so please don't think that as I write I am doing so with any authority on the subject. It does seem to me that logic, a common mental process that many people utilize, is the first skill set you would work with make when dealing with intelligence gathering.
All of this after the fact information about the many dots that were out in the intelligence world that didn't get connected really didn't make any difference ahead of time. Is it a problem? Sure it is and having 16 agencies gathering intelligence doesn't make sense either, but that is another blog.
If someone who was at the ticket counter or whatever had common sense, (and used it) when they have someone buying a one-way ticket, paying in cash, bringing no luggage other than a carry on, and doesn't have a coat on during the dead of winter at his destination...I don't know how many of those really big RED flags should there be to make someone think twice or maybe three times? Hey, if they are afraid to make a decision then call someone over to help with that decision.
Oh and the deal about the pundants asking why blow up the plane during landing and not over the ocean. Really? Are they serious? That can't be something they just don't have a clue about. Hello??? More people will be killed, the airport would be closed, all other flights in the country would be effected, they would terrorize more people, need I go on? It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why we can't use our common sense more often?

Random Acts - as in kindness

Think how much time Americans spend waiting, worrying and wondering about what might happen. Most of what they fret about is something that they don't want to happen or fear won't happen. Very infrequently do Americans think in a manner that generates good things to happen and bad things not to happen. How many times a day, week or even a month do you make a conscience effort to do something nice for someone? Not a loved one or even someone you know. Do you ever try to do something nice for someone ever?
Many people make resolutions to change their behavior, get fit, and take time to smell the roses. A few make that commitment happen. Good for them. I don't make resolutions because my entire goal in life is to be happy. What makes me happy in a way that cannot be enjoyed in any other way is to be nice. I like to be nice to everyone I come in contact with. I choose to live my life with the attitude of committing random acts of kindness.
The look on peoples' faces, their expressions, and their surprise is all so nice to see, hear and know. I imagine when I am out and about I commit a dozen or more random acts of kindness a day. Not bragging but attempting to make a point. If all of the "friends" I have on my FB committed 3 random acts of kindness a day that would have an impact on 141 people a day. If those 141 people were impacted positively enough to themselves commit 1 random act of kindness that same day there would be 282 people impacted in a positive manner.
Back to the fact that Americans are obsessed with the negative things in life, for many reasons good and bad. What if we all made an effort to be nice? It is really simple don't you think, when you really think, hard and serious? Come on...give me any good reason why we can't be nice a few times a day?
